Aberdeenshire is home to many different animals and birds, most of which can be seen from Buttermere Cottage or nearby. Nature lovers will enjoy the abundance of wildlife in this area. Just don't leave the cottage without your camera and binoculars!
Bottlenose Dolphins are regularly spotted along the Banffshire coast, especially during the summer months. Orcas and Humpback Whales are occasionally seen in the area. There are plenty of grey and common seals.
Also in this area there are many Roe Deer. There are a small herd of deer in the forest behind the cottage. These are often seen grazing on the field.
Also, look out for pipistrelle bats, red squirrels, grey lag and pink footed geese, buzzards, herons, greater spotted woodpeckers, lesser red poll, yellow hammers, tawny owls and barn owls too!
We do have a Barn Owl that is sometimes in residence in a specially made Barn Owl box. If you are lucky and it is in while you are here, we will invite you to view on our live feed monitor. You can see some of our videos on You Tube.
